Word from the Mouth

By Kevin Kousaie

We made it through another week and only a few more touches go until playoffs, and I can't wait for the time off. After weeks of us complaining about the rain the last 2 weeks we have been dying from the heat and humidity. I'll take the rain over the heat any day. Most if not, all would prefer the heat but when you’re out in that weather for 14 hours the sun kills you. The NBA is over, the NHL is done all we have is baseball which sucks peaches to watch it’s too dam slow and the CFL. Wait there is one more league you’re forgetting about ELF, Its stands for Europe league of football. I mean it’s not NFL if that’s what you’re expecting but it isn't half bad and it gives you your fix so I’m ok with it.

Recaps

D1

Raccoons once again looked out of place in D1 getting smoked by Iron Wolves lead by Willie. Avery was finally used by Guillaume or at least for big plays but once they were close it was Dave St-Jean on a drag for the score. In their second game Raccoons finally pulled out a victory over Villains on the last play of the game. Who says punting is a terrible thing, only Willie. After cutting through everyone like a hot knife in butter Idaho got a reality check when they faced Outlaws. They had a tough time stopping or even slowing down the combo of Max and Marvin who each scored 3TDs. In the final d1 game of the weekend came down to the wire with KOLB pulling it out over The Unit by 1 point.

D2

Ducks snatched their holiest win of the season over Phoenix. Ducks came out fast and hard to start the get jumped out to a big lead before Phoenix woke up and started to play. Phoenix made a game of it in the second half, but it wasn't enough as Phoenix keeps sliding down. Average Joe's are looking average at best, ever since that last second win against Fins Up. Nice TDs keep rolling as they pull out another close one. Rejects beat a RawSauce team that was missing Avery because of their defense having 4 picks in the game. CIA struggled at times in this game but also at times looked like they might pull it out. This Fins up team can beat you in so many ways. This week it was the combo of ben and max. Ben for the big plays and max for short and first downs. It’s their defense that was more impressive 5 sacks totaled by 3 different players.

D3

Somehow someway Nomads pulled off the win against Thunder Buddies. Nomads were outplayed but got away with it because Thunder Buddies couldn't stop the run. F.A.T. players went 0-2 this weekend but after their second game were considering a name change to formally F.A.T. Players. You're going to lose any game that you give up 42 yards rushing to Jon, it’s in the rulebook. The funny thing is in their second game they only allowed Avery 32 yards on 2 extra carries.

D4

It what we all have been looking forward for weeks now the clash of the big 2 in the division turned out to be a flop. Mustard Tigers were looking to stay undefeated, but they were without their QB among other players. Baby Maynard singlehandedly beat Mustard Tigers scoring 4 TDs and getting 2 picks on defense. The rest of the D4 games were blowouts except the Bandits verse Nothing but D. That game lacked excitement. Matt leads a Bandits team that is very efficient offensively and depends heavily on the defense. Nothing But D struggled all day to move the ball.

D5

After getting trampled by 514 in the morning Wolverines rebounded and got their first win of the season over Phoenix. This game came down to the very end with Sylvain scoring the winner with 11 seconds left and without Brendan being there for Phoenix there was slim to no chance they were going to score in 2 plays. Later in the day Phoenix got to play their second game of the day and looked to snap the 2-game losing streak they are on. In their first game Phoenix struggled to move the ball and that carries over into the second game. The truth of the matter is that if Mimosa crew had their second string QB had been there they would have won the game. Phoenix got away with one because Chad had never thrown a ball before. Pick 6ers won and this time it was because of their offense. William threw 3 TDs and only 1 pick those numbers are normally reversed.

Women's

I missed all the women's games but the word around the field was Angie killed it throwing 5 TDs and Zuzana was equally as important getting 2 TDs and 2 picks for Crazy Bs. Drama Queen was led by their defense getting 4 picks and scoring on 2 of them.

That’s all I have for you this week.

Studs and Duds

 Final Thoughts

In case you didn't already know it is calling for rain tomorrow so yeah to me who gets to be there all day getting wet. At least I play early and won’t have to play in sloppy conditions. Maybe I'll pull a Jon and just screw terry over to finding a time to reschedule the games and not do what they did and schedule it at the same time as another game I must play. Yes, this happened look it up. I won’t give names, but we know who it is. I’m going to leave it like that and let you go but before I do remember we are playing a game for fun so go out have some fun and don’t try and kill anyone. I've been hit enough over these last few weeks that I don’t need any more brain damage. Have a good one and see you tomorrow. Breaking news games from Leber have been moved over to Darcy McGee this weekend.

Word from the Mouth: What's with the Double Articles?! edition

Word from the Mouth: What's with the Double Articles?! edition

Word from the Mouth

By Kevin Kousaie

Oh man, who would have guessed it? 2 weeks in a row with great weather. I would have preferred it if there was a breeze, but its better than the rain. What I can't believe is that I left Saturday with water and Gatorade left in my cooler. Guess it pays to have a bigger cooler or that Marvin wasn't at the same field as me.

For the longest time everyone thought I was an ass (ed’s note: you say this like people no longer think this), now people think I’m a nice person. This needs to change. I’m going to start charging for drinks and food.

I saw so much football this weekend I'd better get to my recaps before my head starts hurting again and I forget what I seen.

Recaps

D1

I missed out on seeing Willie become the new Jon with his slow boring drives or Vinny borrowing my shorts and obviously the skill set as well for his game against Idaho. I also wanted to see if Nicolas Boucher could repeat that ridiculous 1 handed catch along the sideline from a week ago. Smuda made his season debut and only scored 2 TDs, that extended off season seems to have upset the chemistry with Steve.

D2

Nice TDs are looking like a team that you don’t want to play against. After working through stuff and building chemistry over those first 2 weeks, they are now on fire. For their opponent Double Dippers, they are on the decline after starting out hot. It didn't help that David was absent once again and his replacements threw 4 picks this week.

Now the game I wanted to see was the Rejects vs Average Joes, only to see Jason and his team get walloped after acting like fools last week.

Then there was the Phoenix vs RawSauce game which I played in and a game that very few big plays were made, but the ones that were one on the defensive side of the ball. It was Marc-Antoine Léveillée with a pick 6 and the one that was the nail in the coffin for Phoenix was a pick 1 on the first OT possession by Gabriel for the win. It sucked to lose that way, but what can you do about it? Sometimes a guy just makes a play on the ball and you can't do squat about it.

D3

I was live and present for 3 of these 4 games and at least 1 of them was great. I will say I've never seen a player throw the ball on 1 team while simultaneously playing defense on the other team and getting the PD, well done Mr. Louis Vranderick at 1:01 on the play by play. Now to the games I saw.

Action Squad dismantled La Horde 54-20 and I think if Gold was the QB they whoop them. That wasn’t the case as Avery was the QB and he threw 7 TDs with only 9 incomplete passes. The only thing that stopped Avery was the extended uniform he had on. Glad to see the dreads didn't get ripped off.

I was hoping to see a better game from LTC, but they were missing a few players and it took Cesar a little while to figure out Max was on the other team. LTC’s top receiver had 5 catches and Max had 4 picks.

For the game of the week (minus Joey, so if Him U wants we can put an asterisk beside this one for you), Him U could have easily won this game, but 2 mistakes cost them. It was the overthrow from James and allowing Terry to bleed 5 and a half minutes and score on the last play of the game.

I should charge as a motivational speaker or, in this case, writer. Got you wondering what is he talking about? Last week Benjamin Mallette was the dud and this week he showed up to play with 3 TDs and a pick. If that isn’t enough for you, then I don’t know what to tell you.

D4

Bouchers were too much for a QBless Nothing But D team to handle as they got shutout 20-0.

Mustard Tigers are firing on all cylinders as they cruise to another easy win over Action Squad.

Rob should know the Bandits team since he plays with most of them in Laval. Rob threw 3 picks as he was outplayed by Matt who only threw 4 incomplete passes all game long.

Bouchers went 2-0 this weekend beating Creaky Knees 33-27. I only mentioned it because all the blame for the loss falls on Alex and the 1 drop. It wasn't for a TD or anything, I just happened to look over and saw it.

D5

Mimosa Crew's defense set the tone early and often getting 9 picks in the game leading to a 44-0 shellacking of Legendaries.

In there second game Mimosa took the beating at the hands of MTL Cessnas 46-26. Milan torched them with his legs (72 yards) but also through the air (228 yards) and 6 TD passes.

Improbables pulled off a close one which was decided by a convert. You never think about it during the game and only afterwards realize how important they are.

Phoenix put up a goose egg this week as Nicks favorite target was Guillaume with 5 picks. The Slicks defense was all over the place and Phoenix couldn't move the ball on offense or get a stop on defense.

I finally got to see DTS play and after seeing them, I think Justin Khouzam might be their best player, not Yianni Mitsianis, but I could be mistaken because of their situation.

Wong Dynasty played the best game of their season this weekend and had a chance late to win it all. Matthew Lazaris struggled early with a few picks (3), but after settling in he got rolling, plus he had 2 picks of his own. This DTS team is really athletic and will be dangerous once they gain some experience and knowledge. Ryan Wong at times looked like he was in full control directing the offense up and down and then there were times it looked like he had no clue what was going on. This game shows you that despite their record, Wong Dynasty shouldn't be overlooked.

Women's

I know nothing and I heard nothing, but if I had to put money on it at 1 point in the game Kayla was crying (sorry, asking) about a call or why it wasn't called. I could do the research, but who has time for that? This is MFL news I make it up as I go along. I learned from Fox News.

That’s what I have for you in the way of recaps. I figured I'd try something different this week and see how it goes.

Studs & Duds

Its the time to see if I think you did enough to crack my list. Not everyone could make my list and a few of you made my picks harder than they needed to be and some were so simple that if it took 2 seconds to name that person, I’m the one with the problem then. Now let's see who I put on my list good or bad.

Studs

D1

- Brady Ohanessian 9 TD passes and only 8 incomplete passes.

D2

- Gabriel Boucher because of his picks 1 in OT.

D3

- Benjamin Mallette 3 TDs along with a pick on defense.

D4

- Marc-Antoine L'Hérault-Paré 3 TDs and 2 picks.

D5

- Guillaume Malo had 5 picks on defense plus threw 4 TDs also.

Women's

- Rochelle Bethelmy 5 sacks.

Duds

D1

- Vinny Gualano he threw 4 picks and got benched for Ashton.

D2

- Jason Armenti because of his 3 picks plus why not.

D3

- Michael Lesniak for not knowing how to stay up on his feet.

D4

- Rob White for getting out played by Matt and not being able to beat his own Laval team.

D5

- Nick Kousaie for throwing 6 picks.

Women's

- Barbara Donais for running 39 yards and not getting in for the score.

Those are the players I came up with, love it or hate it, I don’t care. Want to make my list? Play better or play worse, guess it depends on which list of mine you want to make.

Predictions

I haven't been keeping up with how my overall has been, but last week I went 17 and 8 which is not great but it’s still a pass. Now to this week's picks and like always my picks are in bold.

There you have it my winners for week 7 or 8, not sure anymore which week were in, but I do know that at least 3 teams are bopping up the chance for me to be perfect. The question is will it be your team that screws me or will it be someone else?

Final Thoughts

Should they allow NFL players to play flag football in the Olympics or should they let the flag players go instead? I say monkey sandwich that, let the flag guys go and show what they can do, plus the Olympics are for amateurs not professionals. Don't worry I feel the same way about the NBA and the NHL players as well (ed’s note: phew, I was worried!).

I can tell you that if I’m on the national flag football team and I’m good enough to represent the country 50 weeks of the year, but not the 2 weeks the Olympics are going on, well, I guess I’m not representing the country those other 50 weeks as well. Let the pros go. Wait they can’t, they have other jobs. They want the pros for the fans and so people will watch and then maybe flag football will become an official sport.

Before you go remember we play flag football for fun, so take it easy out there, have fun, enjoy yourself, and try not to kill anyone. See you all on Saturday.

Word from the Mouth: Predictions and Power Rankings! edition

Word from the Mouth: Predictions and Power Rankings! edition

Finally, after weeks of rain, we got our first summer weather. And boy, was it ever hot out there. I really didn't think I would have to but obviously I do with warmer weather you really need to start prepping for this and bring yourself some water or Gatorades and stuff. I just think that it's kind of ridiculous that I can show up with 16 Gatorade and 22 water and leave with 1 water and 1 Gatorade that were both still frozen. I’m not complaining I’m just pointing it out. I don’t care if as long as there did leftover for me at the end of the day. 14 hours out of the house with nothing to drink on the way home is too much. If you’re wondering why I say 14 hours I’m out the house by 615 and I don’t get home to 830, that’s a long day in the sun but great for my tan.

Finally Thoughts (ed’s note: that’s definitely a typo, but I like to think that this is Kevin finally having a thought and saying, “Finally! Thoughts!”)

You know you’re getting old when you do a little physical work and now can barely move and are sore all over. I’m sure I'll be fine by Saturday morning, though Saturday night is a different story.

The NFL season is still so far away and the CFL just isn't the same to watch, it just doesn’t do it for me. The best football (college football of course) is still months away.

I went by Le Ber and not one line at all, Arthur Therrien got painted as a rugby field and de La Verendrye has multiple lines all over the place for the different sports. One day we'll play on a field that has the proper lines for us to use 25 yards wide by 70 yards long. I know I just made a lit of people say no its 50 yards and they'd be right if they didn't add the 10 yard endzones. It would be great to have the mid field line, goal line and a red line for the red zone. I mean get the logo at mid field as well. Wait I better settle down before I end up doing this along with everything else.

Have a good one and see you all tomorrow and remember we play a game for fun so go have some and try not to kill anyone or take it to freaking seriously.

There you have it my rankings after 5 weeks of play. You still have plenty of time to see your team up on my list, but you’ll need to win some games and in some case hope for a few teams to lose but you should just worry about your own team and just win, baby.

Final Thoughts

Hope everyone is ready for it, but I did something that will make some people jealous and other asking themselves what did I do. I could tell you but where’s the fun in that.

We are at the midway point of the season and that means its time to start gearing up for the playoffs. Yeah, I know its early, but with so much parity across the league you better start to think about it, but don’t think to hard I don’t want you to hurt yourself.

All the games are at Le Ber this week, so no moving around, that’s great for me. I just hope that the weather stays nice, so we don’t destroy another field. What bothers me is that the city has done nothing for years about fixing up Le Ber but this past week I drove by Darcy McGee and they have it locked up and they fixed up in front of all the soccer nets.

Before I let you go let me remind you that we are playing a game for fun, so go have some fun, don’t take it to seriously, and try not to kill anyone. Have a great rest of the week and see you Saturday.

Word from the Mouth: Mega-Fluff Marshmallow Man! edition

Word from the Mouth: Mega-Fluff Marshmallow Man! edition

Let me start by saying I’m sorry for this article being later than expected. I was off on vacation and didn’t have my laptop with me. I know — shocker — I’m actually apologizing for something! Hey, we all come to our senses eventually.

Being late and still in vacation mode, I’m going to keep this short and sweet (ed’s note: I’m calling it now, neither of those things are true). We’re now 5 weeks into the season, and it has rained every single week. I could tell you that this week looks better, but that would be a fibble-flabble. Right now, it looks warm, but rain is lurking (ed’s note: it’s looking good as of Wednesday!). The one bright side? All games are at Le Ber, and that’s always a treat. If I had to place a bet, it would be that if the sun shows up, so will Willie — with a slice of pizza in hand. Bold prediction? Maybe. But Terry would just snort-giggle at me anyway. (ed’s note: Terry is known to snort-giggle, from time to time)

Recap

D1

I finally caught some D1 action this week, and wowza, was I ever bamboozled.

Iron Wolves vs Idaho Udapimp (20–52)

Brady was cooking — aside from the one throw Kris jumped like a ninja-lemur (ed’s note: well done, ChatGPT) and snatched. Kris’s pick kept points off the board, but Gabs' diving interception was the real snack. It wasn’t Willie’s day. His reads were solid, but his throws had all the zip of a sleepy banana slug. Five different players picked him off — almost six if Brady hadn’t butter-fingered two near-interceptions. Bright spot for Iron Wolves? Jonathan with 11 grabs and 3 sacks. Beast mode.

Villains vs Ranceurs (34–14)

No starting QB for Ranceurs? Yikes. They hoped for the best — and kinda got the opposite. They also decided to leave Jeremie, the human skyscraper, completely uncovered. He scored 3 touchdowns on just 4 catches. Catch of the game? Jeremi’s toe-drag-diving snag in the endzone. Still not sure how he pulled that one off. Lucas racked up 5 sacks and turned Nicolas into a wide-eyed raccoon caught in headlights. Ranceurs showed life before halftime with Gio’s pick and score, making it 22–14. But the second half? All Villains.

D2

Missed the games, folks. My bad. Catch ya next week.

D3

Witching Hour vs Him U (18–40)

Quick version: close game in the first half. Second half? Him U decided to turn on cheat mode. Their defense made magic and the game got out of hand faster than a squirrel on espresso. Still my finals pick.

Iron Trollers vs Drama Club

Postponed.

D4

Creaky Knees vs Underdogs (14–26)

Last game of the day, and by then we were all cold, soaked, and dreaming of hot soup. Simon caught everything for Underdogs, keeping the sticks moving. Jocelyn’s legs had defenders doing the slippery-shuffle while his teammates found space. Creaky Knees should’ve run more drag routes, but hey — not their thing.

D5

Improbables vs Phoenix (7–38)

Normally, when two media gremlins face off, we wager something dumb. I offered our first-borns — Nick declined, saying he already owned Matt. Where’d this kid get his sass? Nick didn’t do much on offense (short fields galore), but Matt threw 5 picks — 2 gift-wrapped for an old dude, and 3 where Brenden went full ninja. Brenden even took the last one to the house to end the game — totally not chill. Improbables were missing their coach and Matt’s safety valve, Alex. Not saying it would’ve been a win, but maybe less of a pantsing.

Women’s Division

Sorry ladies — missed your games too. I’ll make it up to you.

Studs & Duds

Time to see who brought the heat and who went full flufferdoodle.

Studs

D1

  • Lucas Guerrera: 5 sacks. Sack master supreme.

D2

  • Conner McAleer: 3 TDs, 1 pick, and D2 Win #1. Boom.

D3

  • Vincent Martel: 5 TDs, 1 pick. Certified baller.

D4

  • Félix Thibert-Valade: Two pick-sixes? Yes please.

D5

  • Yianni Mitsianis: 4 more TDs (now at 13 for the season!) and 2 sacks. Dual-threat mayhem.

Women’s

  • Isabelle Poirier: 6 TD passes. Touchdown queen.

Duds

D1

  • Stephen Harripersaud: 3 picks. That’s a wobble-wobble stat line.

D2

  • Double Dippers: Team effort dud-ery.

D3

  • Jon Evans. No explanation needed. You know why.

D4

  • Rob White: 11 runs for 18 yards. Eep.

D5

  • Brenden Urquhart: Pick-six at the end of a blowout. Rude-ish.

Women’s

  • Kayla Gauthier: Had 5 picks, couldn’t find number 6. Tragic almost.

With 5 weeks gone, I gotta ask — when’s the weather gonna stop being a soggy diaper? I want to see some wild stats and big performances, but rain keeps raining on our parade. It got so weird I almost made Jon a D3 stud — but then I remembered that’d be a softie move from a mega-fluff marshmallow man. (ed’s note: I like what ChatGPT did here, but I have no idea what that means)
