MFL Week 1 Wrap Up
It was a great opening weekend for the MFL Fall season at Ignace-Bourget park on Saturday with all of our teams at the same park again for the first time this year.
Div 1 saw three very close games (and one blow out that we won’t talk about) with the Coqs eking out a 2 point win over the Outlaws, but still wasn’t as tight as the Krakens last play of the game win over the OG Panthers. The game everyone stopped to watch though, was the Locomotion versus Revolucion game which saw two high powered offenses gunning it out with the Locomotion finally taking the win in the end by making a goal line stand to take the W.
In Division 2, Old School looked like they were still in a funk from their loss in the finals in the spring, but they’ve got the talent to be strong contenders for the championship this fall. The Team 8 vs Team 4 matchup saw a tight defensive game with each team only scoring one offensive TD, but Team 8 came out on top with a pick 6 to get a 12-6 final win.
The Raccoons faced a Team 5 squad that was composed of subs, but it still turned out to be a great game with Team 5 stopping a 2 point conversion on the last play of the game to get the 21-19 win, though the Raccoons still got the forfeit win. Finally, Team 7 against Team 6 saw the experience of Aftab Mian lead his Team 6 over Team 7 in a convincing first win of the year.
Next week we’ll be playing at Ignace-Bourget again for the second week of cross-conference games, but it will be the last week there as the park is under construction by the city after that. And don’t worry Eastern conference teams, all of your cross-town games are done!
