Predictions and Power Rankings Week 3

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 3

Before getting into Kevin's predicitions and power rankings, I'd like to remind everyone that we have a new MFL Podcast that comes out each week. Check it out here on YouTube and here on Spotify.

Predictions

Now that we all caught onto Will paying teams and with the cameras on him, he wasn’t able to buy his way to wins and end up with the lowest win total of the week. This week we have another issue. Somehow Jon was near perfect and he can barely tell his left from his right (ed’s note: it’s easy! The left is just not the one that is right!). An investigation will be launched into the matter. It seems as if Terry and I are the only honest ones out of the group.

Here are the standings from last week and overall and you can see they are ranked by last week, not total.

Jon 19-2 last week (36-15 overall)

Terry 17-2 last week (33-10 overall)

Kevin 17-4 last week (35-13 overall)

Will 15-6 last week (36-12overall)

Here are this week’s picks and remember my picks are in bold.

Division 1

Holy Trollers vs Moretti Crime Family

They have the stronger roster and by now have figured out the smaller field.

Bitter Boys vs Ninja Turtles

They are too fast for bitter boys to keep up with.

Holy Trollers vs Bitter Boys

This was hard, but Trollers have more athletes.

Henchmen vs Centurions

Revenge.

Division 2

KOLB vs Red Zone

They are athletic and have better chemistry.

Outlaws vs D#Nasty NA

I don’t pick my teams games

Lean Mean Machines vs Petit Phoques

They are the better team even if Dom isn’t playing QB.

Long Chefs vs Honor Game

They have the better QB.

Division 3

Washington Foreskins vs Mustard Tigers

Younger, faster and the better team as well.

Old School vs Chiefs

They have better chemistry and are the better team.

Deep Threats vs Les Tannantes

Other than Svetna they are the better team at every position.

Black Knights vs Average Joes

With the addition of JC this team will walk all over them.

Nice TDs vs Iron Wolves

They are the more complete team.

Division 4

Flamboyant Flamingos vs Les Improbables

They have the better QB in this game and will be a little faster as well.

Cereal Killers vs Les Improbables

I don’t know any of them on the team, but everyone who has played them said they were a decent team.

Les Panaches vs Thunder Buddies

I wanted to go Panaches, but then I remembered that Terry is a more consistent QB and a better runner.

ADED vs RawSauce

They will be more organized and not show up with a 12-15 player roster.

Sneaky Snakes vs Les Bouchers

It will be a low scoring game since neither 1 has put up any points, but I went with the team I know.

Titans vs Les Beautes

Manon won’t be able to keep Ben under control.

Division 5

Gold Rush vs Les Pollitos

They might not have the best player on the field, but they do have loads more experience.

Mimosa Crew vs Phoenix NA

I don’t pick my games.

Spin Doctor vs Les Last Calls

Right now they are the better team.

That is it for my picks I’m either right or I’m wrong (ed’s note: yes, this is true). I know just out of spite some of you are going to go out and ruin my picks which is fine by me. If that happens, I’ll just figure that I’m the motivation you needed to win and I’ll take credit for that as well. Good luck to everyone this weekend, but especially the teams I picked.

Power Rankings

Oh, how one week can change so much. Last week I could have put money that certain teams would stay on my list and others would never make it up here. As you will see from this week’s list, I made some changes and they are all warranted. Let’s jump to my list and I can explain afterwards.

Division 1

#1- Outlaws

#2- Ninja Turtles

#3- Centurions

Division 2

#1- Outlaws

#2- Honor Game

#3- Joey’s Haters

Division 3

#1- Les Tannantes

#2- Deep Threats

#3- Iron Wolves (ed’s note: you have us on the power rankings and not the Nice TDs, yet you picked the Nice TDs to win against us…)

Division 4

#1- Thunder Buddies

#2- RawSauce

#3- Flamboyant Flamingos

Division 5

#1- Phoenix

#2- Les Last Calls

#3- Gold Rush

I had to have Moretti Crime Family removed from the list as they will be spending time in lockup until they can prove they can play this game and win with that roster. The Haters have been on the list by default. Division 3 seems to be the only division that knows where they all belong. Sneaky Snakes have fallen so far down my list they might need to grow legs and walk their way back up. We also get a glimpse of RawSauce and Flamingos being considered as a top team, will it last? Div 5 is a mess after the top spot. Who will stake their claim and become the true #2 team?

Final Thoughts

We made it another week city hasn’t tried to shut us down and that is great. I also like how the weather is great for playing football, this week might be a little different since they are calling for rain.

For anyone new, we do play in the rain and only if there is lightning do we pause the game and allow it to pass. The best thing about playing in the rain is that the best team doesn’t always win.

I personally hate playing in the rain too many guys use synthetic balls and it just slips out of everyone’s hands. Also, as a snapper it’s hard to control the ball.

I’m hoping the city put lines down, but I really doubt it. I might have to do the lines myself, but like anything when you want it done, it’s better to do it yourself than wait for someone to do it for you. I’m thinking that if it’s not done in the next week or two I’m going to go out one night and it should take a few hours at tops. This week when you are out playing there are a few things to remember: it’s only a game, have fun, play hard, and be safe. See everyone Saturday.

Word from the Mouth: Painting the Lines! edition

Word from the Mouth: Painting the Lines! edition

Let me start by saying that both Terry and Will’s predictions were wrong. The grass was only yellow not green, neither team scored 40 points, and there was more than 1 pick. If you didn’t watch their podcast then you have no clue of what I’m talking about.

I’m still waiting for the city to paint the lines so we can have fields that are straight and of course we want them to turn on the sprinklers, so we aren’t playing on hay. Last weekend if you were able to play in 1 of the first 2 time slots you played while the ground was still a little moist and you could actually use your cleats to make cuts without worrying about sliding or breaking something. I know that George and Jon are both pestering the city about the poor field conditions and trying to make them fix them up so that it will last this season. We all know the city will eventually get around to it, but when is the question. We wanted it done weeks ago, even before the season began, and now we are going into week 5 and this is getting out of hand. We might have to start asking everyone to bring an extra bottle of water just so we can water it ourselves. That’s it about the fields, it’s time to talk football.

Week 4 Recap

Terry and Will have picked their games and left me with a few good games to talk about. If you want to see what they had to say, tune in on Wednesday night around 7 and the podcast should be up on YouTube and a few other places.

Division 1

Ninja Turtles vs Centurions (27-15)

There is one thing that really stuck out to me about this game, Centurions dropped way too many balls in crucial times of the game and Ninja Turtles did a lot of the same. This was a tie game at half and could have seen Centurions leading. From what I was seeing, every time Ninja Turtles needed a played to be made Tam was throwing the ball. Wade was having a really bad day, he couldn’t avoid the pressure from Francois and when he did have time, the passes were off. In the second half, Ninja Turtles started to put it together by scoring, but it was a lot of key plays that kept the drive going. 3rd and long and what did they do? A deep out to Alex just past the bag and this happened multiple times. Ninja Turtles still won the game, but it wasn’t pretty and I’m still waiting to see a complete game from them. Centurions hung in as long as they could, but with only 6 players you can only last so long against a really strong team.

Division 2

D#Nasty vs Long Chefs (27-13)

I felt going in that Long Chefs had no shot in this one and I was surprised at how well they played. They are mostly new to the game, but they play hard and once they builds some chemistry, don’t be surprised if they beat a few good teams. Now when it comes to D#Nasty, you never know what you are going to get. Will it be the team that scores 40 and makes it look easy or the team that plays poorly and can’t do anything right? This week it was a little of both. They should have won by way more even with missing a few players. I’m not sure how many picks they dropped. At least 2 or 3 and I’m not talking about hard picks, ones that hit them right in the hands. The one that stood out was when the ball was between two of them and they both kind of left it for the other guy. When D#Nasty is a full squad they can beat anyone in the division, including themselves.

Honor Game vs Lean Mean Machine (44-6)

I don’t want to seem like a broken record, but come on Dave, you are playing the best that anyone in the MFL has seen and your roster is stacked and that’s not your fault, but at some point you gotta control that guy Marvin. He might need a break from time to time. Marvin, I’m just playing, but from all the accounts I heard Marvin was a beast and wasn’t going to allow anyone from stopping his trek to finding the end zone. I know that there is talk about Lean Mean Machines going to division 3 and that is fine by me, but what can we do about Dave and his team of unstoppable ballers? I can see that Honor Games took it easy in the second half which is great, but that won’t change the fact that they still scored 44 points and had their way with Lean Mean Machines.

Division 3

Average Joes vs Big Boys (25-19)

There was no one happier on Saturday than Jason. It is only week 2 for his team and they are already in the win column. I am a huge Francois guy and I didn’t see how they were going to stop him from having a field day on Average Joes, but somehow they did it. They slowed down his running and forced him to beat them with his arm and he wasn’t able to do that. What I liked about Jason this week was even after his team allowed Big Boys to tie it with under 2 minutes, he stayed calm knowing that if they don’t turn the ball over, they go to overtime. Jason wasn’t having any of that and was going to air it out to get the win. Jason worked the ball and forced Big Boys to cover everywhere and with no time on the clock Jason was able to find Berson for the score. I missed the end, but I hope they put Jason on their shoulders and carried him off the field. I know it’s only 1 win, but for a new team coming together this can be a huge victory which can lead to more. Nothing is harder than that first win now the pressure is gone and they can just have fun and win more games.

Chiefs vs Deep Threats (0-29)

This was a lot closer than is should have been. They were playing a new team that is trying to figure out their QB. This is the second time I’ve seen Deep Threats play and they looked like trash. They didn’t play to their potential and played to their competitor’s level, they should have won by 60. Other than Svetna, no one showed up for Deep Threats. For the Chiefs, once you figure out your QB you will be fine. I know everyone wants to look good throwing that 45-yard bomb, but take the underneath stuff and that will open the deep balls for you. Ask some of the veterans from around the league how you can improve and watch some of the division 1 games. You can pick up a lot from just watching the game. NFL and NCAA are great to watch and filled with athletes, but when playing flag give me the old fat slow guys all day long (ed’s note: this is also Kevin’s motto in his personal life). Go back and watch the AAFL finals last season between the flag guys and former NFL stars and then tell me what you think.

Les Tannantes vs Nice TDs (25-13)

I know Terry and Will are covering this game, but I just wanted to point out one thing. Kris had mentioned that him and Andrew weren’t going to play defense and didn’t want to have to put the team on their shoulders and they couldn’t even last 1 week. Also, Kris we figured it out and he lost this game on purpose. Why are you going for it on 4th and 6 on your 9 yard line to start the second half in a one score game?. That’s all I had to say. For the full game recap watch MFL Total Access with Terry and Will on Wednesday.

Division 4

Sneaky Snakes vs Panaches (6-12)

This could possibly be the upset of the season right here. I know I have Sneaky Snakes high on my power rankings, but after a week like this, I don’t know where to put them. Last season they were a top team in the division and this season they look like garbage and that’s being nice. I know Jie said he put on 30 pounds over the year, but the whole team looks slow and just not into it. Andrew was the most accurate QB last fall and now he cant even complete half his passes. Sneaky Snakes no more, now they are Slimy Slugs. Get your Skittles together or I hope you like watching the playoffs from the sidelines. Panaches have been very surprising this season. They picked up a few players, made a switch at QB, and both moves seem to be paying off. Right now I think Panaches have a chance to win a few more games, make the playoffs, and maybe surprise a team or two. Once Felix figures out that he doesn’t need the big play every play, the interceptions will come down and the points will go up. This game came down to the wire and had it not been for a huge gust of wind pushing the ball out of bounds, we might have seen overtime.

Improbables vs Airborne (12-6)

I’m rather disappointed by Improbables so far this season. The roster is solid and they have loads of experience and should be able to play better each week. This is a team that just a few weeks ago was out practicing and by now you’d think they would be firing on all cylinders, but that isn’t the case here. Charles looks off. The few times he threw last season he was confident and was throwing it all over the place, picking defenses apart. By all accounts Airborne isn’t a great team, but they do have a few great rushers in Matt and JP and that could have screwed with Charles. Guillaume keeps taking strides every season and this season is more of the same. He gets a little better and the rest of the team stays the same. I know you want to win and you will eventually, but you have to keep plugging away and the win total will follow. With the clock winding down and Airborne with the ball they began to move closer and closer to the end zone looking to tie it up and win on the convert. On the last play of the game Guillaume threw a pass that fell incomplete and like that the game was over and Improbables get their first win as a franchise.

Division 5

Gold Rush vs Spin Doctors (18-6)

This game sucked for all involved. Gold Rush was missing half their roster, including their QB, so should we really count this as a win for them? I know it will, but to me this game meant nothing. For Spin Doctors this was almost like a practice that they lost (ed’s note: I have to say, losing at practice has to be demotivating) which doesn’t prove who is the better team. I hate games like this. Raph is trying to teach a bunch of new players the game and right now they are struggling, but they do have some potential. I want to see this game again with 2 complete rosters and after Spin Doctors have a little more experience.

Mimosa Crew vs Les Last Calls (12-20)

From the looks of it, Mimosa Crew added a new player and he looked good in his first week. I would also like to point out that the team as a whole looked more in tune and understood the game better. Les Last Calls just moved down from division 4 and it looks like they will fit right in with the rest of the teams in division 5. Sebastien was an absolute beast this week. No one on Mimosa Crew could stop him. With a team that only feeds one player you need to figure a way to stop that player and force them to go somewhere else. I can tell you from the stats that Curren looked a lot better this week, he was able to make good reads and find the open players. For Les Last Calls, just keep it up and get better each week. This was the game that Jon subbed in and it is also the game where he dropped a pick with very little time on the clock that would have given his team a chance to tie it if they scored and got a 2 point convert. Jon you’re a decent QB, but as a DB you suck, if you get your hands on it you must catch it (ed’s note: every QB dreams that this was true).

That is it for this week’s recaps. Either you love it or you hate it (ed’s note: or you’re somewhere in between), but at least you read it.

Top Performance of the Week

Now we get to see if you balled out enough to make my list. Let me remind you of the rules: your team must have won, you can only get in for the top division you play in, and if you don’t like my rules well that sucks for you. These are my picks and I will not be influenced by anyone and don’t even try to tell me you need to make my list and give me your stats. I will put you on my list, but not the list you want to be on.

Division 1

Offense

I went ahead and gave my pick this week to Jonathan Svetna. The guy did nothing but catch 3 balls for 77 yards, 2 TDs and a 1 point convert.

Defense

This guy already won it once before this season and this week’s defense player it goes to Terry Babalis with 3 tackles for 3 sacks.

Division 2

This week I am picking a player that does it all for his team and might have won this award last week if his team had won. Kamba Katchelewa he had 7 catches for 113 yards and 2 TDs.

Defense

It’s nice to see old faces from years past coming back to the league and this week’s winner is one of those guys. Adam Ruddick was able to pick off 2 passes to go along with his 2 tackles.

Division 3

Offense

I’m in a nice mood today so I figure Id keep that trend going and give this week’s award to the man grinning ear to ear and that would be Jason Armenti. Jason went 21 of 35 for 174 yards, 4 TDs, 1 pick and had a 1-point convert. He also ran for 33 yards on 6 carries.

Defense

Anyone who knows the game will tell you defense starts up front and this guy had pressure all day. Cyril Jamal Belfort from Black Knights had 6 tackles and 2 sacks this week.

Division 4

Offense

This had to be my easiest pick of the week. Gabriel Proulx looked like he was a man amongst boys this week. He was 13 of 21 for 256 yards 7TDs, 4 2-point converts and had 3 runs for 30 yards with 1 TD.

Defense

After looking over all the stats for the division, I was worried that if I didn’t pick this guy he might show up at my game and pick one of my passes off and run it back for 6. Marc-Antoine Leveiller was able to do that twice this week and also recorded 1 tackle.

Division 5

Offense

Sebastien Lucas Alzate went out and did nothing but shine. He pulled in 6 balls for 111 yards, 3TDs and 2 1-point converts. After a week like this his expectations must be high and I wonder will he be the top dog.

Defense

Alexandre Ladoucer Labonte is this weeks winner. It is no small task being asked to rush, especially against a QB that somewhat knows what he is doing and is also so what mobile. Alexandre manages to get 2 sacks and constant pressure all day long.

There you have it, my 10 winners for all 5 divisions. I know some people might feel they got snubbed and maybe you did or maybe you didn’t meet my requirements. You want recognition then you need to show up and show out leave it all out on the field and then just maybe it will be good enough for my list.

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 2

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 2

Before we get into the Predictions and Power Rankings from The Mouth, we've release our first MFL Podcast of the 2021 season, featuring our very own Terry Babalis and Will Power. Check it out on YouTube and Spotify

And for those who don't know, we have weekly videos from Saturday and Sunday posted on our Facebook page. Here's this weeks video:

Predictions

It’s still very early in the season, but it seems as if Will the Thrill is up on the rest of us. I have a reliable source that said they saw Will handing out cash to teams before their games. If anyone wants to come forward on this, it will be strictly off the record.

Will 16-5 last week (21-6 overall)

Kevin 14-7 last week (18-9 overall)

Terry 13-7 last week (16-8 overall)

Jon 11-11 last week (17-13 overall)

Here are my picks for this week and remember my picks are in bold.

Division 1

Centurions vs Ninja Turtle

They have too much speed and experience.

Bitter Boys vs Centurions

They are younger quicker and have more energy.

Outlaws vs Moretti Crime Family

I’m going Outlaws only because I think it will still take a few more games for Crime Family to adjust to field size.

Division 2

Petit Phoques vs Joey’s Haters

I wanted to go Petit Phoques, but I’m not sure who is playing QB for them, so I went Joey’s Haters.

D#Nasty vs Long Chefs

I know D#Nasty and I know what they are capable of.

OG Panthers vs Redzone

I happened to see Redzone practicing a few weeks ago and they were dropping and bobbling everything.

Honor Game vs Lean Mean Machine

They have played together for a while and Dave is playing lights out.

Division 3

Old School vs Iron Wolves

When you have the biggest, fastest, strongest player on the field who is going to stop him?

Average Joes vs Big Boys

This is going to be close, but Francois is the best athlete on the field and I can’t see how Average Joes will slow him down.

Mustard Tiger vs Free Agent 3

This team will figure out how to play as a team, plus Leon is going to ball out.

Les Tannantes vs Nice TDs

They are the better team with better athletes from top to bottom.

Chiefs vs Deep Threat

Svetna is on a mission this season and won’t be stopped or at least not this week.

Division 4

RawSauce vs Les Beautes

I’m taking Rawsauce because I’m not sure if Thomas will be back this week after getting hurt last weekend.

Sneaky Snakes vs Panaches

QB has more experience.

Washington Foreskins vs Bouchers

They are the better team with more experience.

Thunder Buddies vs Les Last Calls

There isn’t a player on that team that can stop Terry from running all over them.

Flamboyant Flamingos vs Titans

Ben, that’s it, that’s all.

Free Agent 4 vs Cereal Killers

I heard that they weren’t horrible.

Les Improbables vs Airborne

Somehow I feel they are the better team.

Division 5

Gold Rush vs Team Levy

I had to go with the team that have played before, but I’m not super confident in this pick.

Phoenix vs Les Pollitos NA

Sorry to disappoint, but I don’t pick my teams games.

Mimosa Crew vs Les Last Calls

I played both teams and Les Last Calls have a higher upside.

That is it for my picks this week. I want to point out I don’t want to see anyone taking bribes from Will, he is giving you fake money.

Good luck to everyone. I know I didn’t pick you all to win, so all you can do is go out and prove me wrong or make me look like a genius which seems to happen all the time.

Power Rankings

With so many games to look at, making my top 3 will be tough. I know that everyone who won this week probably thinks they are the best team in the division and you might end up being, but right now this is how I see it and if you don’t like it deal with it.

Division 1

#1- Outlaws

#2- Ninja Turtles

#3- Moretti Crime Family

Division 2

#1- Outlaws

#2- Honor Game

#3- Petit Phoques

Division 3

#1- Les Tannantes

#2- Deep Threats

#3- Iron Wolves

Division 4

#1- Sneaky Snakes

#2- Thunder Buddies

#3- Titans

Division 5

#1- Phoenix

#2- Gold Rush

#3- Les Last Calls

Hope you liked my rankings I know some of you don’t, but that is too bad for you and your team. This is after week 1 and there are still plenty of more weeks to come so you still have time to crack the list. You might win a game and feel you need to be up here, but I need you to show me it wasn’t a one time thing. You also have to beat some good teams. I’m like the NCAA, losing a close game to a top team is better than beating a team at the bottom, remember that and just win and eventually you should make it up here.

Final Thoughts

You want me to tell you what was the biggest goblin of the weekend from my stand point? It wasn’t being out in the sun for almost 12 hours, it wasn’t fixing the holes on the field, it was all the Slim Jims that took all my water and left me none at the end of the day. Sorry, let me correct that, they left the bottles that were completely frozen. Its summer time, it’s hot and after a long day I’d like to drink something on the way home without having to stop. I don’t understand how people come out to play or spend all day at the field and don’t come prepared.

With all that said week 1 was a success only one person got hurt who just happens to be on my team, but he is tough and hopefully will be able to make it back in a few weeks. It has already rained a little bit this week and it’s supposed to rain more during the week and possibly on Saturday as well which is great for the field, but remember that we play in the rain, so no excuses.

Last thing. We are playing a game for fun, so go out, have fun, and enjoy yourself.

Word from the Mouth: 1 of the best 1s! edition

Word from the Mouth: 1 of the best 1s! edition

We have some great news! We made it through week 1 officially and, like always, there were a few things that we as a league need to improve on, as well as some of the players, but it was week 1 and if it was perfect, we would be better than every other professional league out there.

We had our largest number of games played in one day and from the looks of it everyone enjoyed themselves. I know that the field isn’t in the best shape, but that has nothing to do with us (ed’s note: nice deflection). Jon, Nick, and myself came out in May and filled in the holes, leveled it off, and added grass seed so that this season we would be playing on a plush field of grass. If you had been out here a few weeks ago you would have seen it like that. As you can tell we are kind of in a drought, so there has been very little rain and on top of that the city hasn’t turned on the sprinklers yet,, but it’s still better than a few years back when they went off in the middle of the game (ed’s note: at this point, I’d take that over no watering!).

With that being said, let’s all pray for a few days of good solid rain this week so we can play on a field that has a little give. I haven’t played on concrete since I was 12 or 13 and I’m much older and way fatter than then, and I’m not sure if all my joints will be able to take it much longer.

Week 1 Recap

Remember that I will only be picking 2 games per division this season as this way I leave games for Terry and Will to cover on their weekly podcast MFL Total Access. This way you can tune in to watch them after you have read my article and you will be completely up to date on what’s happening around the league.

Division 1

Moretti Crime Family vs Ninja Turtles (30-46)

Going into this one I picked Crime Family to win and I was shocked to see the final outcome. Wade had a great day playing against a very talented team, but he wasn’t the only one throwing TDs for them as Tam and Alex decided that they can do more than just catch balls and play defense. The biggest adjustment that Crime Family will need to do make is to get accustomed to the width of the field. It’s only 25 yards wide, not the 31 or 32 that most of them are used to. Joey is a really good QB, but flooding the zones doesn’t work as well on the smaller field. Crime Family will adjust and be fine. What Crime Family has going for them is that anyone on their roster can rush and that will be keep to stay fresh and keeping the pressure on opposing QB. I just want to see a game from Ninja Turtles where the Pilon brothers go off and how the defense tries to adjust, can’t be far off.

Outlaws vs Trollers (26-7)

In this game we had my new team vs my old team, a team that is organized vs a team that is all over the place, a well-oiled machine vs a jalopy (ed’s note: no bitter break-up here…). Enough of the comparisons, this was a close game at half with the score being 6-0 Outlaws. It should have been more, but Outlaws couldn’t capitalize before half. Second half was all Outlaws. They enforced their will and did as they pleased. Trollers had no answers and to me I can’t see how this team will survive. They have no one taking charge and running the team properly and with Max having a few new toys to play with there aren’t enough balls to go around. Trollers have added talent, but lost unity (ed’s note: Kevin = Unity). Before the game a few of my old teammates tried to get under my skin, but me being me I kept my cool and didn’t say shit (ed’s note: you not saying anything is literally the opposite of you being you) I just let it go in one ear and out the other. After all was said and done the team I’m on won and the start of my revenge tour 2021 couldn’t have gone any better.

Division 2

Joey’s Haters vs Honor Game (30-33)

Me, like most people, didn’t see this coming, but then none of us expect Dave to ball out the way he did. He outperformed Max who at one point was a top QB in division 1, how times have changed. I have been saying this to people for years Max, isn’t a top QB he picks his targets beforehand and doesn’t change what he wants to do from year to year (ed’s note: jeez, Kev…). Dave in past years was all over the place, this week he almost looked like Eli. A man on a mission to prove everyone wrong. Dave got the ball out fast and to multiple receivers and the Haters had no way to stop them. The funny thing is that the game was won by converts. I can bet you I knew what play Max went with and who he would throw it to on every attempt. I would tell everyone, but I will keep that to myself and use it in a few weeks. Keep it up Dave. And Haters, you bunch of whiners, you better watch out, everyone is coming for you.

Lean Mean Machines vs D#Nasty (6-26)

D#Nasty did what I expected them to and that was play defense and not make many mistakes on offense.  I don’t know what Lean Mean Machines were doing/ Kevin is a baller, get him involved. Last time I saw Kevin play he was a beast and not many could stop him and this week he gets 1 ball for 4 yards. Michael, I know it might have been your first week playing QB, but you need to step up and use your top player. Lean Mean Machines have a few other guys who can play, but they will need time to gel and get used to each other. Hopefully it happens fast or it might be a long season for them.

Division 3

Old School vs Average Joes (20-19)

This was a game of 2 halves. Old School started with Charles under center who got stepped on, so with under 3 minutes left in the half Dahic went in and the game started to change. Average Joes looked decent for a bunch of guys that haven’t played together before. Jason puts a lot of pressure on himself to be perfect, but he has guys that can make plays for him, so if he learns to relax a little his performances will go up and they will win games. Old School is a better team when Dahic is throwing, just wondering if this will be a permanent thing. Old School has been together for years so losing to them by 1 point is a good point to begin from. If Charles never got stepped on by Berson, Average Joes would have won the game. We all know what Average Joes did in Dodgeball, now can they do the same in the MFL this season?

ADED vs Les Tannantes (6-35)

ADED has the biggest roster that I have seen since I played junior football the only difference is that I was playing 12 vs 12 not 6 vs 6. ADED have a few players that are solid athletes, but it will take them a few weeks to learn the game. Oh, and Vaughn isn’t one of those athletes, but his cousin Robert is. At least there is one Steele man on the field that isn’t made out of putty. For a first time playing, Les Tannantes is not the team you want to face. They know the game, they are very athletic and more organized than their opponent was. I will give ADED some credit as they held the lead for a short while, but they were able to move the ball as the game progressed. If ADED can keep improving every week maybe by the end of the year they will have it figured out for the fall season.

Division 4

Les Bouchers vs Les Panaches

It might seem like Les Panaches make the right call in switching from Amelie to Felix at QB. Felix played well and I’m sure that they have been practicing the last few weeks. Les Bouchers didn’t play poorly for the first time against another team. I did notice that Lukas likes to throw deep and he will need to break that habit if they are to win games. There was one play that really bothered me. Lukas rolled to his left, had his center a few yards in front of him with no one around, and then he chucked it deep. It was a contested catch along the sideline, but why not take the easy yards and march down the field. I spoke with a few players from Les Bouchers after the game and gave them a few pointers. It shouldn’t take them long before they understand the game completely. Les Panaches looked as good as I can remember and if Felix can get out of buying time and just throw the ball on time, they can become a very dangerous team.

Les Beautes vs Washington Foreskins (6-38)

I said this before and I’ll say it again, Washington Foreskins have athletes and can play great defense. It also seems like they have learned to play a little offense over the winter. I’m not going to talk much about this game because Les Beautes were missing their best player Thomas who got hurt in their first game. I think if Thomas was there that a few of the big plays by Washington Foreskins might not have happened. When Simon throws 5 picks it just isn’t going to happen for your team. Les Beautes are sitting at 2-2 so it’s not the end of the world, but they will need to pick it up if they want to make the playoffs and that means everyone needs to play better.

Division 5

Team Levy vs Flamboyant Flamingos (0-62)

Raph, you left for a few years and this is what Jon does to you. Throws you to the wolves. At least you threw 2 TDs, just to the wrong team. Flamingos have been practicing for weeks now and are a very good team for this division. To me it’s upsetting how Flamingos ran the score up, I also know it’s sometimes hard not to. Everyone needs to realize that in a tiebreaker it’s points against. not point scored. Raph has a bunch of new players he is taking under his wing. Hopefully Team Raph gets better as the season goes along. I have some good news for the rest of the division, it seems like Flamingos will be moving up to division 4. This week they gave out the beating moving forward in division 4 they might be the 1s (ed’s note: I usually correct these incorrect uses of the numeric value, but this is a crime against God and I’m pretty sure the only way to fix this is to burn it with fire) to get smacked around. Good luck to both teams moving forward.

Phoenix vs Avengers (37-12)

This was a game that saw a bunch of new players playing their first game. The big difference in this game was the fact that Phoenix have a few players with experience and can teach the new players. Ilias is the best player on Avengers and Curren should figure a way to get him the ball and not run as much. At one point in the game everyone on my team knew that Curren was going to run and it was always to the right. Avengers threw 4 picks and on all but the first one they didn’t even try to stop the defender with the ball. Avengers could become a decent team if they learn the game better. My suggestion to them would be come early to warm up, stick around after your game to watch a higher division team play, and if you can ask as many questionz to players from other teams in higher division. Everyone is friendly in the league and no one will bite your head off, we all want to see the lower teams grow and move up the divisions.

Top Performance of the Week

We made it through a week with a lot more games than in the past few weeks and now instead of just picking 1 player who balled out from the division I’m going to be picking 2. I should go 3 and have an offensive, defensive player, and a two-way player, but spaghetti-o’s to that, just offense and defense. I do agree that kickers are football players too, but we don’t kick and there are no returns, so you get two chances to make my list.

Let me point out that if you play in multiple divisions you can only win for the highest division you play in unless it’s a different position, oh and your team must win. I’m not putting and losers up here. Now that you know what I’m looking for here are this week’s winners.

Division 1

Offensive player

This week I have picked Tam Vilaydeth from Ninja Turtles. In his 2 games this week he went 19 of 30 for 278 yards and 5 td passing. He also caught 7 passes for 35 yards and 1 TD.

Defensive player

Alex Pilon who also happens to be from Ninja Turtles got my pick for defensive player this week he had 5 tackles and 2 picks with 1 going back for 6.

Division 2

Offensive player

I really hate to do this, but I have chosen to give my pick this week to Dave Daoust from Honor Games he was this weeks top dog. He managed to go 23 0f 40 for 276 yards and 5 TDs, he was also able to run in a 2 point convert.

Defensive player

I had narrowed it down to 2 players from the came team and it was a hard choice, but I had to go with the Rusher and that means this week’s winner is Charlie Briere-Couture. She managed to make 4 tackles and had 2 sacks.

Division 3

Offensive player

Well this was an easy pick to make, Congratulations to Francois Rochette. This guy had some Madden like numbers going 6 of 9 for 160 yards, 4 TDs, a 2point convert to go along with 1 catch for 45 yards and a TD. He took it easy running this week only managing 6 yards on 2 carries.

Defensive player

In what appears to be his first game ever, Jonathon Lavoie wins my player of the week with 3 tackles for 3 sacks.

Division 4

Offensive player

Terry Babalis is a player that has made it up here a few times in the past, but never with numbers like this. Terry completed 20 of 29 passes for 5 TDs and 2 picks, also a 1pont convertas well.  He also managed to run for 105 yards on 8 carries and scored 2 TDs.

Defensive player

This is the first time that Rosalie Gareau has made my list, but if she keeps playing like this it might become a regular thing. Rosalie had 6 tackles for 6 sacks and managed to get a safety on top of it all.

Division 5

Div 5 is going to get 1 player this week since a team has been moved to a different division and that game doesn’t exist to me anymore. I have gone ahead and made this week’s division 5 award as a two-way player.

Two-way player

In his first game ever in the MFL the division 5 two-way player goes to Trenton Porter. Trenton pulled in 3 catches for 58 yards and 1 TD. On defense all he did was pick off 1 ball and take it back for 6.

This week we had a lot of first timers to the league as well as a few veterans making it up here for their first time, I like to see new blood making a difference for their teams. It’s not fun seeing the same player getting all the recognition every week. I hope that this trend continues all season long. Remember. if you want to make my list bust your ass, ball out and show mw you deserve to make my list.

Predictions and Power Rankings Final "Preseason" Edition

Predictions and Power Rankings Final "Preseason" Edition

Predictions

Last week was another sample size of games with only 5 being played. I had a tough week with my picks, but I was basing it on full teams being there and certain people playing QB. It looks as if I might need to reach out to a few captains and get their line ups before I make my picks. Here is a recap of last week’s picks along with everyone’s overall standings after 2 weeks.

Jon 5-0 W (6-2 Overall)

Will 4-0 W (5-1 Overall)

Terry 2-1 W (3-1 Overall)

Kevin 2-2 W (4-2 Overall)

With my picks this week and moving forward I will only be giving one line as to why I picked that team. With 24 games almost every week doing a few lines would take me forever and it would also be super long for you the reader. Now here are this week’s picks and remember my picks are in bold.

Division 1

Centurions vs Henchmen

They have a much stronger roster and loads more experience playing top tier teams.

Moretti Crime Family vs Ninja Turtles

Moretti Crime Family have the better QB with more experience plus they have a great roster.

Ninja Turtle vs Bitter Boys

The Pilon brothers and Tam.

Outlaws vs Trollers NA

I don’t pick my teams games.

Division 2

Lean Mean Machines vs D#Nasty

They are the better team and have played together for years now.

Les Petit Phoques vs OG Panthers

Charles makes a big leap this off season and finally figures out how to use all the weapons he has.

Joey’s Haters vs Honor Game

This is pretty close to a division 1 roster with a top QB under center.

Division 3

Mustard Tigers vs Iron Wolves

I know the roster they will show up with and Iron Wolves is a toss-up as to who will be playing for them.

Old School vs Team Jason

I know what I’m getting in Old School.

ADED vs Les Tannantes

This team was fantastic last season and they can’t lose to a bunch of newbies.

Deep Threats vs ADED

Svetna will be impossible to stop.

Big Boys vs Free Agent #3

Leon will be QB and he has a few guys that know what they are doing.

Division 4

Les Bouchers vs Les Panaches

I happened to see them practicing on Sunday and the QB looks good and they seem to be well prepared.

Raw Sauce vs Les Last Calls

From what I remember of them last season they weren’t bad.

Les Beautes vs Airborne

They just seem like the better team with the more consistent QB.

Thunder Buddies vs Cereal Killers

I’m going Thunder Buddies since I know them but they will have to play better than last week.

Les Beautes vs Washington Foreskins

They play really good defense and it helps that this will be Les Beautes second game.

Les Improbables vs Titans

There is no one on Improbables that will be able to keep up with Benjamin McMahon and he will run wild on them.

Free Agent Team 4 vs Sneaky Snakes

Far too much talent on this team to lose to players I have never seen before.

Division 5

Phoenix vs Avengers NA

I won’t pick my teams games.

Flamboyant Flamingos vs Gold Rush

I think with Travis as QB there is no reason why they should lose.

Team Levy vs Flamboyant Flamingos

I hate to do it, but Raph has loads of experience and will find a way to pass it along and help his team win.

Team Levy vs Les Pollitos

Both teams have very little experience in this game which makes it tough to pick, but Team Levy has the better QB.

That’s it for this week’s picks. I either picked your team or I didn’t. Now you have to go out and prove that my poor picks last week were a fluke and I was right all along.

Power Rankings

We had 5 games played last week and from those game I had to make some moves. I still haven’t seen all the teams play, so don’t get upset if your team hasn’t made it up here yet, the season is just getting underway. There are still 10 weeks for you to prove that you and your team are actual contenders.

Division 1

#1- Outlaws

#2- Zach Zwirn Team

#3- Henchmen

Division 2

#1- Outlaws

#2- Joey’s Haters

#3- Honor Game

Division 3

#1- Les Tannantes

#2- Mustard Tigers

#3- Nice TDs

Division 4

#1- Sneaky Snakes

#2- Thunder Buddies

#3- Washington Foreskins

Division 5

#1- Gold Rush

#2- Phoenix

#3- The Flamboyant Flamingos

If you have been following along you will notice that I tweaked my list, but not by much. It’s not hard to make the list when so few teams have played, but I can see at least a few changes happening after a full schedule being played. Remember I picked my list based on roster and how well I know the teams and players on those teams. Anyone can make it up here after next week. So, go out play hard, win the game, and maybe your team will crack my top 3.

Final Thoughts

If you have read this far, good job to you, if not, then suck it (ed’s note: you are literally telling people who aren’t reading to suck it).

I would hope that all the captains have spoken to their team about the rules for the season because of Covid. Jon emailed all the captains about what has to happen and I spoke briefly about it in my intro. Captains, if you haven’t let your players know and it costs you penalties and yards, it’s on you so get to it and tell them.

With all that I have said, so far the one clear message everyone should know is that we play this game for fun. No one is paying you to play no matter how good you think you are. So, go out have fun, and be safe.

This week it might be hot, so bring plenty of water a hat with a soft beck and sun screen.
