Word from the Mouth: Skee-Balling the Bed! edition
We had great weather this weekend and we were able to play games. It was a good thing we didn’t play last week considering that it just rained lightly during the 5 pm game and the field didn’t look great afterwards.
I am trying to figure out a different set up so that we have some grass to play on for the playoffs. I have a hook up for a synthetic field that could be available to use, but it’s in the west island and it’s too far for everyone to get and players will complain about it.
A few weeks back Terry sent out a message to all captains and even put a post up about garbage being left behind at the fields. This week at Le Ber we had players, teams, and fans in between the fields where they aren’t allowed and on top of that there was half a bag of garbage left behind. This is ridiculous that as adults you need to be asked and told multiple times not to leave your garbage behind when you leave. Let’s see this week how much garbage is left behind, and it better be zero.
Recap
Division 1
Iron Wolves vs Jagerbomb (32-42)
This game was won because of defense for Jagerbomb. Felix did a fantastic job preventing Demario from running all over the place and ended the day with 3 sacks and they were big losses. Loic was a tackling machine making 10 and getting a pick as well. Iggy seemed to make big catches and gained first downs every time Iron Wolves needed one. Avery had 4 TDs on 6 catches with 104 yards total. One thing Iron Wolves were missing was consistency from their rusher Isiah which is very surprising because I know he is way better than he played this week.
Division 2
Thunder Buddies vs KOLB (30-34)
When I saw who was playing for these 2 teams, I figured it was an easy win for KOLB then the game was played and I was surprised it was as close as it was. KOLB struggled early on defense giving up 2 huge TDs, one on a 45-yard run from Rob and the second being a 47-yard catch and run from Remy. Defensively for Thunder Buddies, Josh led the way with 2 picks. On the KOLB side of things, Jon had a few issues with his receivers not running the correct routes and they also had more than a few drops. Late in the game Alex got hurt and was hobbling around on one leg, but he played since they were only 6 players. Thunder Buddies were able to punch one in late to make the score look closer than it really was and had KOLB made a few tackles early in the game it could have been much worse.
Division 3
I missed all D3 this week so ill leave that to Terry and Willie to cover on the Podcast this week.
Division 4
Top Shooters vs Bines Low Fat (20-26)
I was only able to catch a few glimpses from time to time in this game and what I saw wasn’t pretty, at least from Top Shooters standpoint. Marvin was trying to go deep too much, and it showed with him going 12 of 33 for 208 yards. McSweeney did most of the damage for Top Shooters, racking up 160 yards on 6 catches, but only managed to score once. For Bines Low Fat, JF did a nice job spreading the ball around while completing 21 of 31 pass attempts for 189 yards with 4 TDs. There are rumblings around the league to get rid of players being allowed to use the dip and Marvin is one of the reasons why. When he dips, he also drops and leads with his shoulder almost looking for contact and a call. Late in the game with a chance to win it from the 6-yard line, Marvin elected to run, and he dipped hoping to make it in. He was flagged short, but he also slipped and had no chance to make it in for the score.
Division 5
Phoenix vs Low Expectations (25-20)
This was an ugly game for both QBs as Kevin and Alec combined to throw 8 picks. The big difference in this game was Phoenix was able to maintain drives and move the ball. Geoffrey had a pick 6 to score late in the first half to put points on the board for Low Expectations. Low Expectations had a few plays that kept the game closer than it really was. They scored on the pick 6 before halftime then got a stop and a short field to start the second half and score a TD at the end of the game after Marcel made his second pick of the game. Vince had a great game for Phoenix scoring 4 TDs and making 3 picks and Gab once again killed it as a rusher getting 3 more and bringing her total to 9 on the season.
Jungle Squad vs TD Hunters (12-0)
I asked Gold on Sunday what happened in the game and he told me that he struggled to complete passes and that Justin was the only receiver that was making plays for him, since they were short a few players. Gold also told me that Elena and Camille were all over him and he couldn’t run. Jerome has come a long way since last season. He is now learning how to use the clock and his playing calling has improved drastically over the season. The defense for Jungle Squad played solidly and forced TD Hunters to drive the field and didn’t give up any scores. They ended the game with 3 picks and a shutout.
That’s all I have for you this week, but if you need more of a fix wait until Wednesday night when Terry and Willie put the podcast up.
Studs & Duds
Almost there, just a few weeks left before playoffs and if you’re still trying to make my list you know you better ball out or skee-ball the bed to make it up here. Now for you winners following week 8 being played.
Studs
Division 1
- Alexandre Szalipszki 3 TDs and 3 picks with 1 going back for a score.
Division 2
- Victor Okoro 3 catches 3 TDs and 110 yards plus 3 tackles on defense.
Division 3
- Mason Miller scored 3 TDs on 5 catches for 92 yards, he also had 1 2point convert. On defense he made 3 tackles and had 2 picks.
Division 4
- Benoit Maynard for getting Airborne their first win of the season in a close game.
Division 5
- Sébastien Lucas Alzate 4 TDs on 6 catches for 111 yards plus 5 tackles and a pick he ran in for 6 points.
Duds
Division 1
- A-Team for throwing a ball at a player after the game and handling the loss like children. Maybe not all of them, but some from what I heard, and I don’t know what led to it, but I’m sure ill find out this week. (ed's note: This is not what happened. The ball was thrown to someone on the sideline, that's it. If anything, there was chirping at A-Team from people on the sidelines more than A-Team starting anything. As for how they handled the loss, they were clearly upset with themselves over their performance, but really didn't whine about anything. I'm ready to call this fake news.)
Division 2
- Jeremy Rooney for saying he was going to be there for the 5pm game and not showing up and forcing his team to play 5 vs 6.
Division 3
- Mustard Tigers defense for giving up 92 point in 2 games while getting zero sacks and zero picks.
Division 4
- Alexandre Szalipszki for throwing 6 picks in 2 games and running way more than you should as a QB who wants to develop.
Division 5
- Goldrick Noël for going 9 of 26 with 3 picks.
Those are your winners and losers for this week. Better luck to everyone that didn’t make it, you’ll need to try a bit harder and if you made the Duds list, better pick up your game if you don’t want to see your name up here again this week.
