Word from the Mouth: Smoking on St Jean! edition

Word from the Mouth: Smoking on St Jean! edition

These last 2 weekends haven’t been the best to play in, depending on your team’s time slot. I was hoping that it would get better for this week, but that doesn’t look like it will happen. I know it’s only Monday while I’m writing this, but it’s calling for rain and thunder storms all weekend. This doesn’t mean it wont change between now and then and I hope it does.

Did anyone go out on Sunday and see all that smog, worst air quality in the world. It was bad but compared to how NYC looked a few weeks back, it was nothing (ed’s note: literally one sentence after saying it was the worst in the world…). After Jon forcing me and a few other refs to work in those conditions were all suing him if we get cancer, and it doesn’t matter what kind it is (ed’s note: seems fair). I figure the brain tumor I end up with still counts and proves I have one to begin with.

Hope everyone survived all the drinking they did to celebrate St-Jean. Some teams (okay, only one team) in Brossard came to the field on Sunday still hungover and if you didn’t already know it was 28-3.

Week 7 Recap

Division 1

Outlaws vs Trollers (39-35)

Outlaws jumped out to a 14-0 though it could easily be tied if Svetna didn’t pick off a pass in the endzone. Later in the game I made a joke with Marvin about the logo on his shorts and how it was supposed to be Wonder Woman, and on the next play he catches a 45-yard pass that looked out of reach even with him at full speed, but I guess his lasso came in handy on that one. I don’t know where Steve gets it, but it just seems like with under a minute he always finds a way to march the field and score before the half ends. He did it to end the first half this week with 14 seconds left. Second half Trollers picked it up and made it a game and even took the lead 35-33 with 21 seconds left. You guessed it, Steve pulled it off once again finding Svetna on 35-yard play and putting the ball on the 5-yard line with 1 play left. Steve then found Svetna open in the endzone for the game winner.

Division 2

Pocket Rockets vs Nice TDs (14-36)

Everyone knew this wasn’t going to be a good game early in the week as Pocket Rockets were missing too many players and it would turn out to be one of those game you just play and forget. PO started the game by throwing a pick 6 to Demario. The first half was dominated by Nice TDs with it being 30-6 at half. Pocket Rockets just couldn’t figure out how to stop Demario as he threw 3 TDs, ran 2 in and had 2 picks and took 1 for 6. Both teams traded TDs in the second half and that’s all that happened.

Division 3

Mustard Tigers vs Phoenix (20-14)

When this game was played, it was the worst weather of the day and it showed by the number of bad passes dropped balls or in my case the ball just slipping and sliding out of my hands all game long. The game opened with Tom letting me know he was out for revenge for last season when our teams played. Phoenix was smart on defense and had Nick play man on Tom which worked the first half, but Brian was smart and figured it out after a few drives. The only points in the first half were on big plays. Sean from Mustard Tigers had a 41-yard TD where he made a few players miss tackles and Phoenix scored on a pick 6 by Rob. Half time rolled around, and the score was 8-7 Phoenix. Late in the game with Phoenix holding a 14-13 lead, Brian threw a pass that was in Corys hands and in dry conditions it’s a pick all day, but when he squeezed the ball it slid out and into the hands of Jie for the winning score. Phoenix got the ball with 3 plus minutes left, it was plenty of time to go down and score. It all came down to a fourth down where Nick ran a quick out, and the ball was thrown to him, and it was dropped (ed’s note: blaming the receiver, true leadership on display). He says it was behind him, but it was right on his body and needed to be since Tom was playing short and crashing on the play. In better conditions and not playing on a fractured leg this is a totally different game, especially with the rosters that were there this week. But at the end of the day Mustard Tigers played a better game and earned the win.

Division 4

Super Friends vs Bines Low Fat (26-33)

This game started out with a bang. JF hits Thomas on short route and Thomas takes it 45 yards for the score on the very first play of the game, it took Oliver about 3 seconds to respond with a deep ball to Alex for 45 yards and in less than a minute each team had scored once. On the next Super Friends drive Oliver threw a pick 6 to Michael which he didn’t see him as he made a great jump on the ball. With nothing seeming to work for Oliver, he took it upon himself to get them back in it and took off running on first down and he just kept making players miss with a juke here and a juke there and topped it off with a spin before reaching the endzone for a 45-yard TD. Before half, JF was trying to widen the lead 5 play scoring drive after Simon picked off a pass as Super Friends were driving. Half time score was 26-13. In the second half they traded punts and picks for a while, but Oliver was able to tie it up at 26 with 8:30 left. After the defense was playing great in the second half when they need a stop and the ball, they allowed Bines Low Fat to put a drive together along with a TD and convert. Now down 7, Super Friends were moving the ball and with 2 plays left Oliver had his pass picked off by David to seal the win and end the game.

Division 5

Phoenix vs Chili Hotdogs (37-34)

This game wasn’t pretty for either team. Simon was subbing at QB for Chili Hotdogs and in the first half nothing could go wrong for him. He was able to pick the defense apart with drags from Hugo who picked up lots of yards after the catch as well as throwing it up to Gustavo Andres Cruz for big chunks of yards. I can tell you from guarding Gustavo he has strong hands and can go up and high point the ball. On one of his TDs I hit the ball, pulled his arm, and then tried to rip the ball out and yet he still walked away with the TD. As for the defense for Chili Hotdogs, they just seemed to be in the right place at the right time all first half. They picked me off 2 times and other than one play from Gregory, they played a perfect half. To start the second half the score was 20-6 and right off the bat Kenny takes a pass 45 yards for an easy score. At half we talked and made a few adjustments on defense, and it paid off by forcing a quick 3 and punt from Chili Dogs, but they got it back after a pick by Cam. Simon made us pay for that pick extending the lead to 27-13. After that Phoenix took control of the game with a score followed by a pick another score and another pick and another score. Suddenly Phoenix was up 31 to 27 with 5 minutes left. Simon had plenty of time and knew what he needed to do to pull off the win. He used the intermediate routes to march down and take the lead back and left under 2 minutes left. After a quick check down to Roxanne for a few yards, I hit Gregory on a quick slant that he took 37 yards for a score and giving us back the lead. On the last drive I made the move to put James at rush because of his height and he was able to force quick throws and knocked a few balls down on the last play of the game from the 14-yard line Simon had to get rid of the ball fast and it was caught but only for 2 yards and the game ended.

That is it for this week, hope you enjoyed.

Studs & Duds

I’m running a bit late on getting my article done this week, so I’ll just jump to what you all want to know and see.

Studs

Division 1

- Dominic Lefort was a terror this week going 29 of 32 for 314 yards, 7 TDs, 1 1point convert, 3 2point converts as well as throwing 1 pick. Dom also ran twice for 40 yards, 1 TD, he also made an appearance on defense making 1 tackle.

Division 2

- Demario Cooper did a bit of everything this week, going 24 of 30 for 220 yards, 3 TDs and 1 pick. He also ran 6 times for 28 yards and 2 TDs. On defense all he had was 2 picks and scored on 1 of them.

Division 3

- Geoffroy Vigneault had 4 catches for 66 yards and 4 TDs and made 3 tackles on defense. I need to know how many of those catches were 1 handed.

Division 4

- Julian Sablowski had himself a game in his teams second game of the day. Julian made 7 catches for 110 yards, 4 TDs and 2 1point converts. On defense all he did was make 3 tackles and have 1 pick.

Division 5

- Gregory Chevry going into the game had 2 catches for 9 yards on the season. In this game he had 9 catches for 126 yards and 4 TDs. Defensively he made 5 tackles.

Duds

Division 1

- The Trollers defense for giving up game winning scores on the last play of 2 different games this weekend.

Division 2

- Owie for his 3 picks and not having that magic to get it done in another close game on the last drive.

Division 3

- Jason Armenti for being a stat lady of the night and scoring with 26 seconds left while having a 17-point lead at the time.

Division 4

- Cyclones for putting Alex at QB when he is your best receiver.

Division 5

- Eduardo Fuentes Contreras 5 picks and your vacation plans get you on the list.

Hope you’re happy with this week’s list. Some players make it very easy to put them on the list and then you have teams that just can’t figure it out and might need a wake-up call. If you made the list congratulations, if not try harder next week.

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 6

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 6

Predictions

Last week I ducking sucked (ed’s note: this was not edited!) with my picks and went 7 of 17 and with this happening I have fallen into last place. I still have 6 weeks to climb back into the race so I’m not worried right now. Here are my picks and like always they are in bold.

Division 1

Iron Wolves vs Trollers

Iron Wolves won’t be able to stop them from scoring.

Gros Coqs vs Centurions

They have more talent on their roster up and down.

Trollers vs Outlaws

Outlaws have a huge height advantage and that’s what will be the difference.

Division 2

Pocket Rockets vs Nice TDs

Pocket Rockets are missing a bunch of players, but it wouldn’t make a difference Nice TDs are loaded.

Master Chiefs vs Idaho Udapimp

Until Master Chiefs show me they can win games I’ll be picking against them.

Division 3

Bines vs Red Cats

Avery has a bounce back game.

Pocket Rockets vs Average Joes

Jason shuts Jaf up by winning a close game, running in the game winning score as clock expires and handing him the ball.

Phoenix vs Mustard Tigers NA

I don’t pick my teams games.

Division 4

Airborne vs Sooners 45

They are the far superior team.

Black Diamonds vs Drama Club

Terry playing QB isn’t going to save Black Diamonds, at least not this week.

Bines low Fat vs Super Friends

Bines might have the better roster, but Oliver and Alex have a connection that just can’t be stopped.

Iron Wolves vs Udaho Idapimp

They have too many players that can make plays and Iron Wolves will struggle trying to stop them.

Cyclones vs Udaho Idapimp

Cyclones don’t have a QB and can’t score so they don’t have a chance in this one.

Division 5

Titans vs Mimosa Crew

Curren just needs to know where Ben is at all times on defense and avoid him no matter what.

Chili Hotdogs vs Phoenix NA

I don’t pick my teams games.

Sour Peeps vs Jungle Squad

Jocelyn is a very smart QB and should be able to score with the players he has.

Tropic Thunder vs Legendaries

Better QB play currently.

Weekend Warriors vs Kiss My Pass

It’s the weekend and they’re looking to fight and with Elijah at QB they will walk away with the W.

That’s it for this week. Hope you guys can help me out and get me back into the race or at least above Willie who is sitting in second place behind Jon.

Power Rankings

We are at the halfway point of the season, and you’d think by now I would know where teams sit, but every week someone pulls off an upset of a team just doesn’t show up. This week I made changes once again and I’m sure I will be doing that the rest of the year.

Division 1

1- Outlaws

2- Gros Coqs

3- Trollers

Division 2

1- Thunder Buddies

2- Nice TDs

3- Idaho Udapimp

Those are my rankings after week 6.

Final Thoughts

It rained last week and its looking like rain once again this week. Anyone that has been around long enough knows what that means. Crappy field conditions by the end of the day and that sucks for everyone. I hate playing in the rain, I don’t care about getting wet or it being cold, I hate it because the ball becomes slick and hard to throw and catch, something I wasn’t very good at in ideal conditions.

We have all heard about the missing sub by now, I’m just wondering who the heck pays 250 Gs to go down see the Titanic using a camera. If you wanted to see it, watch the James Cameron special about when he made the movie it’s the same thing just less crap all over, it. After all that this week take it easy have fun, don’t kill anyone or yourself we are only playing a game.

See you Saturday and good luck to everyone and enjoy the long weekend.

Word from the Mouth: The Rain Has Only Just Begun! edition

Word from the Mouth: The Rain Has Only Just Begun! edition

What a weekend for football. We had all sorts of weather. It started out looking overcast with a little drizzle, then went to cloudy and by the 5 pm game it was pouring. I’m glad to see that the few fans that were dragged out by their significant others weren’t to upset by it.

I’m guessing since people aren’t aware of park rules, we will go over them. You are not allowed to smoke inside that fenced area that also includes vaping. If you must urinate at Le Ber there are a few porta-potties and if you really find that gross like I do, just walk up towards the fence by the train tracks and piss there. At Arthur Therrien there is a chalet that is open as of 9 am, so you can go there. No excuses for not using them.

Last week when I arrived at Arthur Therrien everyone was waiting outside the fence area, and I was quite surprised that no one hopped over. With the way the schedule is made there is a possibility for that to happen a few more times this season, but as players you don’t need to worry you will be given a few minutes to warm up and get ready. Unless you happen to be playing one of my teams, then we are taking the points. Now for this week’s recaps.

Recap Week 6

Division 1

Outlaws vs Gros Coqs (25-19)

I’m going to make this very short, only because Willie was filling in for Steve at QB and should talk about it on the podcast. First half was 7-6 Outlaws as both teams were struggling to keep drives going. In the second half when the weather was getting worse, they both seemed to pick it up a bit. This is a game that 5 years ago Dom would have eaten the Outlaws up all game with his legs, but now he looks to throw rather than run. The thing that made the difference was Tyler kept after Dom and forced him to make a few bad throws that led to picks including a pick 6 by Marvin. Late in the game Gros Coqs were driving and looking to tie the game, but Marvin had other plans and stepped up and ended the game with a pick.

Division 2

I didn’t happen to see the one game from this division this week, but Terry was there and can tell you all about it.

Division 3

Pocket Rockets vs Phoenix (45-24)

The game started off with PO driving the field and scoring followed by Owie getting beat on a post, but lucky for him Ali saved his ass with a deflection and somehow the ball falls into his hands. After that teams started to settle in with Phoenix scoring with under 8 minutes left to tie it at 6. Pocket Rockets marched the field and score taking a 12-6 lead and leaving 2:30 on the clock. That was plenty of time for Phoenix to march the field, get inside the red zone, and have the ball slip out as I was going to throw it to a wide-open receiver on last plan of half. Instead of a TD, Baby Maynard got 1 of his 3 sacks on me. Second half was all Leo as he went off and got 4 of his 5 TDs and 2 1-point converts, even when we had players all over him, he still caught the ball. I know its not good sportsmanship to knock a player while they are down, but I really hope Owie will be ok after his ankles were shattered by the fattest slowest QB in D3. PO played great in this game, but Leo was a dog who seemed to be let off the lease this week and dominated this game.

Mustard Tigers vs Bines (26-32)

Bines pulled off the huge win in this one. Victor was a beast for Mustard Tigers and by far their best player in this game. The play of the game for them came from old man John who was looking fresh out there this week getting a pick 6 and giving them a 19-13 lead. In the second half Bines controlled the game. They scored on their first possession after getting a stop on defense then got a pick right on Brians first throw which led to Bines having a 32-19 lead. After that Brian settled down and was able to lead a scoring drive which meant it was time for their defense to step up and they did twice with stops. Still with a 32-26 lead Bines needed to play defense one last drive to keep the lead and Brian looked good on the first few throws, but then on third and fourth down the balls he threw weren’t so nice with one being overthrown and the other being knocked away. The game ended that way, but maybe if Tom had been a bit cooler with his shelter they would have gotten a few extra calls.

Division 4

Udaho Idapimp vs Bines Low Fat (38-13)

I was really expecting to see a very tight game in this one, but that wasn’t the case. Udaho came out on fire and never took their foot off the pedal. Mason was David’s main target catching 10 balls for 88 yards and 2 TDs, but David was also able to get the rest of the team involved in the game. Defensively Udaho was solid getting 3 picks 2 by David which were both right to him and Simon jumping a quick out and running it in for 6. The defense was too much for Bines this week. JF was flustered most of the game, though Thomas made a few big catches for him and Mathieu was solid like he always is, but the rest of the team needs to step up. When Bines had Simon, he was that guy that led the defense and made plays on offense whenever they were needed. Thomas is becoming that guy, but he needs help from another player. The game started out nice, but as it went on it started to get wet and wild out there and David had better control of the ball compared to JF. I can’t wait to see what happens when these 2 teams play in the playoffs.

Division 5

Tropic Thunder vs Titans (26-19)

I was a bit shocked to see the game be this close. Titans were without Ben who is by far the best player in this division and its not even close and yet were still able to keep it a 1 score game. Stu was a beast on the opening drive catching everything that came his way and even getting some yards after the catch. Barbara subbed for them and caught her only pass off a deflection for a TD on the opening drive for Tropic Thunder. Mark had 2 TDs and 1 2-point convert to go along with his 3 sacks and would have had more, but stepped out once maybe twice. Titans QB Robert looked great today making good reads and putting some zip on the ball. Steve I pee where I want to when it’s an emergency Biddle caught everything short and Austin was the deep player for them. If Robert wants to become a better QB he needs to get more of the team involved and not just rely on those 2 players. What else do I remember about this game? Mark was wide open on at least 1 of his TDs, Biddle fell on his face and got covered in mud, I think that’s it.

Studs & Duds

At the halfway point of the season and a few of you have made the list more than once, I even think a player or two have made it on both lists and a few players I expected to make the list haven’t, or at least not yet. Here are this week’s winners.

Studs

Division 1

- Laurent Foucault balled out getting 2 TDs on 10 catches for 71 yards total. He also made 5 tackles and had 2 picks.

Division 2

-  Felix Fontaine-Larouche caught 6 balls for 63 yards, 3TDs and 1 1point convert as well as making 1 tackle on defense.

Division 3

-  Leonidas Aubert scored 5 TDs on 8 catches for a total of 153 yards, he also had 2 1point converts. Then on defense he made 6 tackles.

Division 4

- David Brisson was able to complete 24 of his 30 passes for 197 yards, 5 TDs and 2 1point converts. David also made 4 tackles and had 2 picks.

Division 5

- Mark Selvadurai caught 5 passes for 95 yards, 2 TDs and 1 2point convert. He also made 3 tackles which were all sacks.

Duds

Division 1

- Manuel Allard-Roy 6 catches for 19 yards is what got you on the list this week.

Division 2

- Mikelis Rogers 2 catches 28 yards and no defensive stats. After all this time of me hyping you up and telling players that you’re the next big thing you put up numbers like this, was I wrong in saying those things?

Division 3

- Avery Klimas has been balling out all season and then this 7-pick performance plus you asked not to be put as my Dud. Unless someone threw 8 it was going to be you this whole time.

Division 4

- Nicolas Poitevin what happened? Only 2 tackles and just 3 catches for 19 yards. Your defense is better than that.

Division 5

- Bear Hood as whole for running up the score and having a team that should be playing in a different division.

That’s who I have come up with for this week as can tell I’m not a fan of teams that dodge division and then run up scores. We are all here for fun if you feel stats are what matters, and you need to beat up on lower caliber teams to get them, then you’re in the wrong division. That last sentence is aimed at 2 teams. If you’re not sure what teams they are, I’m sure Jaf won’t mind tell you what they are.

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 5

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 5

Predictions

After taking the lead last week I allowed it to go to my head and struggled this week falling back into fourth place. The race is still very close, but we have a problem in that Willie is leading, so this week we need to correct that. Here are this week’s picks and like always they are in bold.

Division 1

Iron Wolves vs Centurions

I think last week they won and were short players and this week more of them show up and they manage winning back-to-back games against the Iron Wolves.

Trollers vs Outlaws

Trollers have always had a hard time stopping Smuda, this week they do, but that leaves Marvin and Svetna having big games.

Outlaws vs Gros Coqs

Willie is there subbing for Outlaws and it makes you wonder who will be missing and for that reason I have to go with Gros Coqs.

Division 2

Jagerbomb vs Marvels

Too many players missing for Jagerbomb and the key player would be QB Simon.

Division 3

Red Cats vs Double Dippers

On paper I feel that Double Dippers are the better team, but Avery has been playing great up to now and getting it done and that continues this week.

Pocket Rockets vs Phoenix NA

I don’t pick my teams games.

RawSauce vs Iron Wolves

Iron Wolves have struggled this season and without Jon at QB wont stand much of a chance the rest of the way.

Mustard Tigers vs Bines

I think their team will show up this week and get a much needed win.

Division 4

Sooners 45 vs Iron Wolves

Too young, too fast for Iron Wolves at least this time around.

Les Bouchers vs The Villains

They are loaded up and down and not many teams can match up against them and that includes Les Bouchers.

Udaho Idapimp vs Bines Low Fat

They get back to their winning way with David going off with at least 5 TD passes.

Super Friends vs Drama Club

They have more experience and with Simon at QB I know what I’m getting. With Super Friends who will be playing QB is a question id like to know the answer to.

Division 5

Kiss My Pass vs Sour Peeps

Sour Peeps are a good team and with Lesniak being hurt last week who knows if he will play this week.

My Ball Zach Ertz vs Legendaries

They figure out how to stop Luca from running and their defense gets 3 picks, with a pick 6 to seal the game.

Chili Hotdogs vs Improbables

Etienne figured out last week he can run and this week Improbables have a hard time stopping him from doing it again.

Weekend Warriors vs Mimosa Crew (Upset Special)

Mimosa Crew have a great team and on paper they are the better team. Except when you consider Jeremy plays this week and connects with Elijah for 3 TDs.

Titans vs Tropic Thunder

Tropic Thunder are the better team, but Robert has Ben to throw to and no one in D5 can stop him from going for a TD at any point.

Bear Hood vs Los Politos

They will stop Samuel on offense and Simon will stay away from him on defense.

There you have it this week’s picks. I’ll need some help so that Willie doesn’t build a bigger lead since we just bet a pizza that he won’t win it all and if I beat him, he doesn’t get pizza for 2 weeks. Now help me out so Willie doesn’t get fat like me. Thanks and good luck.

Power Rankings

After another wild week of games this week’s rankings are going to look a little different.

Division 1

1- Gros Coqs

2- Trollers

3- Outlaws

Division 2

1- Thunder Buddies

2- Nice TDs

3- Idaho Udapimp

Division 3

1- Average Joes

2- Red Cats

3- RawSauce

Division 4

1- Villains

2- Bines

3- Sooners 45

Division 5

1- Sour Peeps

2- Bear Hood

3- Mimosa Crew

After last week this is how the ranking are heading into week 6. Are they going to stay this way? Probably not, but you’ll have to come back next week and find out.

Final Thoughts

I had a big thing written on what’s acceptable at the park and what’s not, but then I saw something on Instagram and felt it was better to remind everyone that better days are ahead of us. Here is a reminder of what we have to look forward to. There are only:

- 74 more days until College football starts.

- 86 until NFL season (not preseason) because no one care about that.

- 120 days until meaningful baseball playoffs.

- 127 days until all you bucket heads get the NBA back.

- 149 days until College Basketball is back, but all anyone cares about is the tournament.

I know that we can all tune in to watch the CFL which just started last week, but its not the same. I personally don’t mind watching the CFL, I just hate games where its 2 plays and punt and each team has 8 possessions in the first quarter for a total of 50 yards. When teams are moving the ball up and down the field the CFL game is way faster and more entertaining to watch. Yes, there are bigger plays in the NFL, but the game is played at a much slower pace.

We all know Florida is a messed-up place, but you have to feel a bit bad for them losing 2 titles in 2 nights. The Heat lost to the Nuggets which I told you would happen in the NBA and the the Panthers lost to the Golden Knights in the NHL. I did gain some respect for one player when he came out and said he doesn’t care about the HOF and that winning is all that matter. That’s not exactly what Jimmy Butler said, but it was along those lines.

Weekly reminder time, we are playing a game, so go out, have fun, and try not to kill anyone.

Word from the Mouth: 5 Picks! edition

Word from the Mouth: 5 Picks! edition

This past weekend could have been really gummie bear’d up if people didn’t like me. When arriving on Saturday morning there were people from the city of Verdun about to set up on the football field because they had rented it for a city function. I was able to get ahold of Jon to send me the contract with the city and show that we had it rented. They showed me their contract and after a few minutes of talking and seeing what could be done I was able to convince them to use the baseball field since they didn’t need such a large area and we had more people coming. It ended up working out in the end, but would have been most uncool to set up on baseball fields. In the past we have done that, but that wouldn’t have worked this week since two of them were being used for baseball.

It was hot this week and I’m really praying for lots of rain this week. Walking 25 kms on what seems like concrete all day isn’t good. I’m old, fat, and my ankles and knees are finished. It’s calling for rain all week and Saturday as well, so you know what that means, 40 degrees, no clouds, no breeze, and 120% humidity when it’s time to play.

Week 5 Recap

Division 1

Outlaws vs Gros Coqs (14-32)

I feel bad for everyone who is now playing on D1, as Gros Coqs just got a lot better with Alexandre Bresse coming back from Spain after 3 years off. All he did this week was score 2 TDs on 4 catches totaling 96 yards as well as a 1-point convert. At times in this game both teams struggled to move the ball and their defenses stepped up huge. Smuda made a huge interception after an Outlaws TD and it could have been the difference maker in the game, but Outlaws got inside the redzone and on fourth down Svetna caught the ball on his toes, but the side of his foot came down on the line, ruled no catch. Tommy, who we all know for being a great rusher, had 3 picks on Steve with the last one being one-handed. The Outlaws offense looked off and need to figure it out if they want to get back on top again.

Division 2

Idaho Udapimp vs Spritz Gang (43-7)

There was lots of talking going on in this game and both teams were given warning, but this was never a game and wasn’t going to be one. Idaho was missing lots of players and so was Spritz Gang. JS wasn’t there so Jocelyn was QB. He can play QB in D5, but not in D2 as the players are so much better and it showed as he struggled all day long. Marvin had a decent game getting 9 catches for 59 yards and he even made a pick on defense. There were a few times he was looking for a call, but for me it didn’t seem like it needed a flag. A few of those times the defender had inside position and that’s where the ball was heading, this means the defender has the right and position on the ball. We all knew Manu Allard was a stud, but the game he had was ridiculous. Manu made 7 catches for 76 yards and 3 TDs. Where he really shined was rushing making 3 tackles, 2 being sacks and getting a pick as well. This would have been more of a game if Spritz Gang had JS. Maybe they don’t win, but it’s a lot closer.

Division 3

Phoenix vs RawSauce (21-26)

I’m not sure what I should say about this game. I personally stunk throwing 5 picks. I started the game the same way I ended it, with a pick. Before the game I didn’t think Ludovic or Gabriel were there for them and after hearing about their D4 game I was thinking it would be an easy win. They both showed up. Ludovic picked us apart for the first half and their first drive of the second half Phoenix couldn’t figure it out on defense. Once I figured out that I was able to run and make things happen the Phoenix offense started to move the ball and creep back into the game.  Marc-Antoine Lamarre was all over the place on defense getting 3 picks and one of them I don’t even think he knew he picked the ball off as he put his hand up to block it and it fell right down into his other arm that was reaching for a tackle. The one play in this game that would have made the difference for Phoenix was right before half with 2 plays left, I hung a ball up to Khalil and it would have been a TD if it was a better ball. Still at the end of the game RawSauce gave us a chance to win when Ludovic went for it on fourth down and hit his receiver in the chest and it fell incomplete. Looked like Phoenix had a shot, but miscommunication between players led to wrong routes and my final pick of the game. Do I feel bad we lost? Yes of course, but I feel worse for RawSauce for the game even being this close.

Division 4

I didn’t see any games but wanted to make a few call out and points.

Villians

A few weeks back they were getting killed in D3 and now they look like the favorite to win it all in D4, oh how the tides have turned.

Cyclones

What is going on with this team. Marco doesn’t seem to be the answer at QB, Alex is by far their best receiver and has also been playing QB, then you have Nick who got them their only win while playing QB. They need to start looking to the future and pick who their QB is moving forward and ride with that player.

Drama Club

Has a new secret weapon and her name is Jeanne Lewis. The last few weeks she has really stepped up her game and become a target Simon can count on to catch the ball and make yards after.

Black Diamonds

I picked them to go 3-7 at the beginning of the year and at this point that might seem high, but also something they would be happy with see how the season has gone up until now.

Division 5

Phoenix vs Jungle Squad (40-12)

Before the season started these 2 teams scrimmaged against one another and from then to now this team has improved drastically. They have a better understanding of the game they have a few players that are good athletes, and they have this guy named Michel Gémieux who is going to be a great player in this league. He is fast, has an eye for the ball, his one downfall is that he needs to know where the sideline is because more than once he had yards to gain but stepped out. Their QB Julien Suprenant had a bit of trouble dealing with Kenny the rusher from Phoenix who happens to be tall and very fast, but also can make good hard cuts. First half of the game everything was working for Phoenix as anything we did got us yards and kept the chains moving. Kat is keeping the family name relevant in the league. She scored 1 TD and 3 1-point converts this weekend and on one of those converts she made it look easy on a very bad throw by me where she was able catch the ball and keep her feet in when I thought it was uncatchable. At half it was 34-6 so in the second half Phoenix was getting everyone involved and tried to get everyone a TD even when they were tripled covered and there was very little chance to make a play.

Big Booties vs Improbables (18-19)

We can’t tell you how important converts are until you play in a game like this. From watching this game both teams took a long time to warm up and get things going. You know the thing that was great about this game was when Lianne Deguire made her first catch ever in the league and Big Booties all cheered, now that’s what D5 is about. Alex and Gold were the main targets for Matt catching 18 of his 24 completions and getting all 3 TDs for them. What turned out to be the deciding factor in the game was after Improbables first TD the convert for JP who was wide open all alone. Late in the game needing a score it became a Josh and Max show. Josh would run to get big yards then look for Max then run again, and it did work. They scored and needed the convert to tie it up, can’t remember if they went for 1 or 2, but either way it was no good leaving 4 minutes on the clock. It was time for Big Booties to get a stop, leave some time and have a chance to win it. They couldn’t stop Matt and his offense which was just trying to chew the clock and get a few first downs to end the game. Matt was smart with the ball and only made safe throws and the game ended on Matt running for 6 yards and Big Booties being out of timeouts.

Studs & Duds

It really seems like everyone is trying to make my list with the way they have been playing these last few weeks. Here are the names of this week’s winners who are added to the list.

Studs

Division 1

- Xavier Collette was a one-man wrecking crew this week getting 26 of his teams 28 points. As well as making 5 tackles and getting 2 picks.

Division 2

- Craig O’Brien was finally able to get rid of that goose egg in the W column, throwing 7 TD and only 8 incomplete passes.

Division 3

- Alexandre Szaplipski averaged 20 yards a catch this week. Out of the 9 he caught he scored 4 times.

Division 4

- Jeanne Lewis lead the team with 3 TDs, yards with 45 and was tied for the lead with 1 pick this week. Simon might have a new favorite target moving forward.

Division 5

- Étienne Simard might not have had a great day through the Air but running for 4 TDs and over 100 yards in a game is not something you see every day.

Duds

Division 1

- Stephen Harripersaud having 2 TDs to 4 picks, those are my type numbers and we all know you can do better than that.

Division 2

- Tyler Znoj for only managing 1 sack on a QB that sits in the pocket and doesn’t really run around.

Division 3

- Kevin Kousaie for throwing 5 picks, started the game and end it with one.

Division 4

- Greg D'Alesio opened the game with a 4-yard catch and ended the game with 6 yards total and no sacks. The Greg I know is way better than that.

Division 5

- Josh Levine because when the game is on the line it was a Max and Josh show and not using the rest of the team isn’t cool, its D5.

There you have it week 5 winners and losers. I had a few difficult choses to make but, in some case, it was easy. Moving forward if you want to make my list pick it you and show me that I must have you on my list.

That’s all I have for you this week if you want more MFL news look for Terry, Willie and Jaf on Wednesday night and for Brossard look for Matt and his guest on, I want to say, Thursday night.

Thanks for reading and see you all Saturday.
